Article หมายถึง คำนำหน้านาม นามทุกตัวในภาษาอังกฤษเวลาพูดหรือเขียนทุกตัวต้องมี article นำหน้าเสมอ

หลักการ ใช้ a , an, the
1. ใช้ a นำหน้านามเอกพจน์ นับได้ขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะ และนามนั้นต้องมีความหมายทั่วไป เช่น a table , a week , a boy , a teacher, a student , a table
2. ใช้ a นำหน้าคำขึ้นต้นสระแต่ออกเสียงเป็นพยัญชนะและมี adjective มาประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น a blue eye , a university, a sweet ice cream , a European
3. ใช้ an นำ หน้านามเอกพจน์ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยสระ หรือนามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย พยัญชนะแต่ออกเสียงเป็นสระเช่น an orange, an elephant, an hour, an honest
4. ใช้ an นำหน้านามเอกพจน์ นับได้ ขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะแต่มี adjective อยู่ข้างหน้า
เช่น an important, an interesting story, an able man
5. ใช้ a, an นำหน้านามที่เป็นตัวแทนของพวกหรือชนิดเดียวกัน
เช่น a cow has four legs.

6. ใช้นำหน้าอาชีพ เช่น a teacher a nurse, a doctor,
7. ใช้นำหน้าคำเกี่ยวกับการนับเช่น …………………….......................................................
8. ใช้ the กับนามที่ชี้เฉพาะเจาะจงที่เป็นที่รู้จักดีแล้ว
เช่น the man in this car is the prime minister.
The girl in blue dress is my sister.
9. ให้ใช้the นำหน้านามที่มีอนุประโยคมาอยู่ข้างหลังเช่น The pen which I bought for you is red.
The cat which was dead is mine
10. ใช้ the นำหน้านามในการเล่าเรื่องเมื่อกล่าวถึงนามนั้นเป็นครั้งที่ 2
เช่น She owns a cat and a cat in the house. The dog is black, and the cat is white.
11. ใช้ the นำหน้า แม่ น้ำ ลำคลอง ทะเล เทือกเขา ห้องสมุด พิพิธภัณฑ์
